40+ Programme
We very often welcome students over forty to BEET and they highly recommend the experience! We do understand, however, that sometimes you want to spend some of your free time with students of a similar age, so we’ve come up with the perfect solution!
The classes are integrated so you will be studying at the right level for you, which is the best way for you to improve your English as fast as possible.
Unlike most courses of this type, you will be grouped according to level/ability and not age. This more unusual format has been praised by course participants who felt the dynamic was far richer, and the discussions more interesting & diverse as a result. They also said it was a lot of fun too! Former 40+ students, some of whom were apprehensive at first, felt they truly benefitted from this approach.
We’ve put together a special social programme to ensure that outside the classroom you’ll have a selection of activities uniquely designed for you: 2 afternoon outings per week, an exciting, boutique Sunday excursion, and 2 (optional) evenings out. We’re determined for you to have the best experience possible!
Purpose
Our 40+ programme is designed to:
- Improve your English in a relaxed atmosphere
- Offer an interesting programme of visits and experiences
- Meet and make new friends from around the world
Lessons
Lessons will be integrated with students of all ages from all over the world. You will take a test on your first day so we are able to place you in the best possible class for you.
- Levels are elementary to proficiency (A2 – C2)
- Maximum class size is 14 students
- Lessons will be with students from all over the world
After lessons, you will join the 40+ participants for the rest of the day.
Evening options
We arrange two (optional) nights out each week for those who fancy spending some time in a traditional English pub – these are always very popular! There are lots of lovely pubs locally, some offering live music too! These occasions will help you make the most of your weekday evenings, and are also a fantastic opportunity to sample the local hospitality!
Optional film/theatre outings are also organised for those who fancy something other than the pub! All these activities are at an additional cost, but all will be accompanied by one, or more, of our 40+ team.
Afternoon social programme
After morning lessons, there are two guided afternoon trips to places of interest for you to experience the local area its best; you’ll also be able to sample a traditional cream tea, or perhaps fish and chips, or even both! There are also free afternoons to arrange your own visits for shopping, sightseeing or just to take it easy!
Boutique Sundays
The highlight of our 40+ Programme is without a doubt our boutique Sunday excursions. We have a range of fabulous options including an indulgent afternoon cream tea at an exquisite New Forest manor house, a gin and jazz boat cruise around Poole & Sandbanks Harbour, a front-row seat at a top Bournemouth hotel where you’ll enjoy the very best view in town, of the world-famous Bournemouth air festival, and a boat trip to Brownsea Island where you’ll enjoy a traditional English picnic, with bubbles of course! All this and more will be arranged on your behalf to ensure you make the very most of your time in Bournemouth.
A varied programme
A variety of fantastic outings are organised exclusively for our 40+ programme. There will be several excursions available including trips to the Jurassic Coast, Swanage, Winchester, Portsmouth, the New Forest and more! If you’re just as happy to spend time with the younger adult students at BEET, separate Saturday excursions are also organised weekly which you’re also welcome to join.

Accommodation
We choose our homestay families very carefully, both for the facilities they have to offer and their ability to make you feel welcome. You’re able to choose a standard or an executive host family (guarantees you a private bathroom). We also have self-catering student house accommodation available. If you would prefer to arrange your own accommodation privately, you are more than welcome to do so.
